PUTTING IT TOGETHER is typical Stephen Sondheim – which means it’s anything but a typical musical revue. Much more than simply a collection of songs, the show has been called a “revusical” because it’s an innovative marriage of a traditional revue and a dramatic musical. PUTTING IT TOGETHER celebrates Sondheim’s music and lyrics with songs from shows including Company, Into the Woods, Follies, A Little Night Music and even Assassins.
In honor of Sondheim’s genius for exploring people and relationships through his music, PUTTING IT TOGETHER features an original storyline that brings new context and meaning to the songs. The setting is an anniversary party, where two couples and an intriguing uninvited guest gather for the evening. The characters, and their relationships to each other, are revealed through the songs – in the alternately surprising, humorous and poignant ways that are uniquely Stephen Sondheim.
