Dance Classes at SABA

Creative Dance II (ages 4-5)

Designed to develop your child's movement and classroom skills through creative play, music and dance. This class will focus on ballet technique and will prepare students to move into a classical beginning ballet class.

Pre-School Ballet and Tap Combo (Ages 4-5)

This fun and energetic class if perfect for those students wanting a variety of dance at a young ages. Students will focus on basic ballet and tap technique in this 45 minute class. Students will also be able to perform a ballet dance piece and a tap dance piece at the recital in May.

Beginning Ballet (ages 6 and up)

This class emphasizes the development of classical ballet skills with a focus on proper placement, alignment and coordination of port de bras with leg and footwork. Students will learn ballet vocabulary through barre and center work while building strength and flexibility. This class is appropriate for students who have had Creative Movement II and older students with little to no ballet experience.

Ballet 1 (ages 8-up)

This hour long class is a continuation of Pre Ballet and continues to build students repertoire of ballet skills and terminology through warm-up, barre work, and center. Students will refine their motor skills and learn control of their own bodies while discovering the joy of classical ballet. This class is appropriate for students who have had at least two years of ballet training.

Beginning Tap (ages 6 and up)

An introduction to the rhythm and coordination of tap dance. Students will learn the proper tap technique to create clean distinct sounds and later be introduced to rhythmic layering.

Intermediate Tap (ages 8-13)

This course is for dancers with previous tap experience or who have successfully mastered a majority of elements taught in our Beginner Tap course.  Students will learn full length tap combinations that will focus on precise steps and foot articulation, rhythmic awareness and layering, movement through space and will incorporate the use of arm and full body dynamics used in performing tap

Beginning Jazz (ages 6 and up)

An introduction to the energy and dynamic of jazz technique. Students will be introduced to parallel positions and begin to explore the direct, decisive, and sharp facet of jazz technique and its various rhythms. Students will work on the fundamentals including flexibility, jumps and turns. This is high energy class is sure to keep your little one dancing to the latest kids pop music!

Intermediate Jazz (ages 8-13)

A continuation of beginner Jazz. This class is for students with a sound dance background. Dynamic, energy, placement, improvisation, and intermediate level jumps and turns will be worked on. Classes will alternate between classical jazz, pop jazz and musical theatre jazz

Advanced Jazz

A continuation of Intermediate Jazz for advanced students. 

Jr. Hip Hop (ages 8-12)

This class teaches rhythm, musicality, coordination, and age-appropriate hip hop choreography with no suggestive music/movement.  This is an excellent class for high-energy kids who want to take a fast and fun dance class

Open Hip Hop (ages 13 -up)

Hip hop class is a very stylized form of street dance using isolations, popping, and free styled movement. These upbeat high tempo classes aim to develop not only technique but self confidence and stage performance as well.

THEATRE CLASSES AT SABA

Kinderdrama (Ages 3-4)

The most popular class of SABA! Students step into the world of imagination and make-believe as each week we make a different story come to life with songs, costumes, props, and art activities. Students use the art of storytelling to act out various nursery rhymes and childhood favorites.  A short performance will be held for friends and family at the end of the semester.

 

Creative Dramatics (Ages 5-6)

Does your child LOVE to make-believe? This interactive theatrical journey takes young creative minds into the world of theatre as they create characters and participate in creative play and improvisation with a focus on acting and movement. Each week a classic fairytale or Disney story will be brought to life as the students work as a team on recreating the story in class. The Spring semester will work on concentrating on Readers Theatre and students learning the early stages of scrip reading. A  short performance for family and friends will be held at the end of the semester.

 

Get on Stage- Beginning Acting (Ages 7-10)

Learn basic acting techniques, tips and terms. This fun format introduces students to warm-ups, stage direction, theater etiquette, character analysis, scene work and more. Working with theater games and activities, students learn to express themselves and learn basic theater terminology while exploring character development, active listening, problem solving, and teamwork. A short performance will be held for friends and family at the end of the semester.

 

Laugh Your Socks Off- Intermediate Acting (Ages 8-16)

This class is perfect for students who have already mastered Acting I and have a good foundation of acting techniques. Designed for students who love drama and acting, this class will focus on the funny and comedic side of theatre as students strengthen their skills in script reading/breakdown, monologues, character development, comedic improve, and the physical and emotional techniques of acting. Intermediate Acting will also help prepare students for future auditions at SABA. We promise your child will leave class “laughing their socks off” each week! . A short performance will be held for friends and family at the end of the semester.

 

Music Theory for Musical Theatre- Advanced Acting (Ages 12-up)

This class is for students that are currently enrolled in the 2010 Resident Touring Company, and for advanced theatre students. Students will work on music theory specifically for the voice in relation to musical theatre training. Students will learn how to read music as well as site read and will work on the following skills: - Relaxation, - Breathing Technique, - Voice Technique, - Diction, - Stage Presence    (Poise), - Voice Projection. San Angelo Broadway Academy is dedicated to the development of the human voice and each person's unique abilities and talents. The voice is the most natural of all instruments, forever tied to each person's soul and body. Each of these dimensions must be studied, applied and synchronized through voice technique, expression and interpretation.

Registration Information

  • Please fill out the registration form (download PDF or Word version) 
  • Please download and fill our a registration form for each child that you are enrolling. Be sure to complete the form by answering all questions and sign and date it. Please drop the forms off at the SABA office (10 N. Taylor) or mail the forms in as soon as possible to   SABA   .   PO Box 1562   .   San Angelo, TX 76902
  • Pay the $25 non-refundable deposit fee per student. This can either be done online when you are filling out your pre-registration form or you can mail a check in with your registration form (only for new enrolling students). Please note that students will not be considered completly enrolled untill the registration form and the registration fee are received.

 Tuition Information

  • Tuition is payable monthly in advance, due by the 1st of each month and considered late on the 8th No refunds or adjustments due to absences. Tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable.  Make-up classes are encouraged and must be taken within the month missed. At the time of registration, you will receive a detailed calendar that will list your tuition for each month as well as holidays, etc. SABA follows the SAISD school calendar in regards to Holidays. Classes are based upon 4 classes a month regardless of which day those holidays fall on with the exception of December, January, and May which are half months (monthy tuition is an average based on the fact that some months have 4 weeks and some months have 5 weeks). 
  • A $5.00 late fee will be assessed to all accounts not current on the 8th of each month. Late Fees will be enforced. No statements will be sent out, unless your account is past due
  • If you wish to terminate enrollment, written notification is required before the 1st of the upcoming month. Monthly billing will continue until the office receives written noticeTuition is due for the month in which you drop
  • A $15.00 fee will be charged on all checks returned by the bank.
  • Familes will be responsible for purchasing costumes for the recital. Payment plans will be made available and costume information will be sent out in late Fall

 Tuition Discounts and Scholarships

  • 15% sibling discount offered for students
  • 10% discount for those who pay the full semester in August and January or January through May
  • A discount is built in tuition for students taking more than one class at SABA
